Phew, what an awesome week! 🌟 Wrapped up the The CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme course and kicked off countless DeepLabCut 🦄 adventures across the globe. 🌍 From tiny mice to majestic elephants, it's been a blast! 🐭🐘 Keep in touch and keep DeepLabCutting!
Neurobiological analysis of the fish parasite, Cryptocotyle lingua, shows streamlined signaling and the absence of key pathways, incl. nitric oxide synthase & sheds light on trematode host-infection adaptations: nature.com/articles/s4200… Oleg Tolstenkov Chatzigeorgiou lab Anne aasjord Michael Sars Centre
Huge congratulations to Researcher Oleg Tolstenkov Oleg Tolstenkov and Group Leader Marios Chatzigeorgiou Chatzigeorgiou lab with Alexander Gorbushin IEPHB RAS for an article published in Communications Biology on different life stages of the parasite Cryptocotyle lingua! 📸Anne Aasjord Anne aasjord 👏 Universitetet i Bergen
We are very happy that our trematode paper is now published in Communications Biology . Marion Lebouvier & Melanie Burford Michael Sars Centre wrote a nice "behind the story" piece: shorturl.at/dqtNR. It highlights Oleg Tolstenkov 's creativity & ability to combine parasitology with neuroscience!
✨Our ocean is filled with beautiful microscopic marine organisms that look like stars in the night sky. Thanks to our amazing community for a year filled with inspiration and collaboration. 🙏 Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year! 📸 Anne aasjord Universitetet i Bergen
📢 Come join us! The Burkhardt group Pawel Burkhardt is looking for an "enthusiastic PhD student interested in evolutionary biology, neurobiology, & cell biology. The project will focus on the functional characterization of #ctenophore neurons." ➡️ jobbnorge.no/en/available-j… Universitetet i Bergen
✨A new paper in Current Biology reveals how marine invertebrates navigate their environment! Using model organism Ciona intestinalis, researchers led by Jørgen Høyer from Chatzigeorgiou lab shed light on the mystery of sensory perception in larvae. 👏👏 Universitetet i Bergen tinyurl.com/Cionalarvae
We are excited to be producing a video abstract for Current Biology to accompany a recent article by first author Jørgen Høyer Chatzigeorgiou lab! Today we gathered footage of the model organism Ciona intestinalis with Jørgen and Sandra Kyrkjebø at Kleppholmen Marina. 🌊 More to come! Universitetet i Bergen
Many thanks to Rita Gemayel for encouraging us to make the video. Also cudos to Melanie Burford for producing this amazing video with nice shots of Jørgen Høyer & Sandra Kyrkjebø collecting cionas in #sunnyBergen. Note that MC's t-shirt features a deep sea carnivorous tunicate!
New preprint from the lab: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… . Zonglai Liang Jørgen Høyer show that members of the evolutionarily conserved #Anoctamin superfamily modulate Ciona metamorphosis rates in response to mechanical & chemical inputs. Universitetet i Bergen Michael Sars Centre
We keep on working, today together with the other JPI Oceans projects! Good to know about you, #orchestra, #diaphonia, #sonora and #purewind!
Congratulations to the Chatzigeorgiou lab for a new paper just out in PLOS Biology 🤩👏 Authors Zonglai Liang and Daniel Dondorp characterized the role of an Anoctamine protein in notochord development in #Ciona. Take a peek behind the scenes! ⤵️ Universitetet i Bergen tinyurl.com/2k7v74db
Thanks Katrine Borgå for the opportunity to participate in this study with our local Michael Sars Centre Universitetet i Bergen Cionas ! It was a lot of fun working with Hilde & Sabrina!
Finally! The work I did during my postdoc Bergen Michael Sars Centre in the Chourrout lab lab out in Developmental Biology! Great job everyone involved! doi.org/10.1016/j.ydbi…
Thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of #JellyfishUnveiled at Universitetsmuseet Universitetet i Bergen. Don't miss out! Photos by Alexandre Jan, Anne aasjord and myself. Funded by @Artsdatabanken, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and Michael Sars Centre. Thank you all who made it possible! Luis Martell Aino Hosia
Congratulations to Paula Miramón-Puértolas @miramon_paula, Eudald Pascual & @PRHSteinmetz for a new paper just out in Nature Communications 🤩 The team's beautiful work identifies a cell population giving rise to both germline and neurons in #Nematostella ⤵️ tinyurl.com/3eu556mu Universitetet i Bergen
How do simple chordate larvae sense water flow and swim upstream? 🌊🧠 Our new preprint from Chatzigeorgiou lab, in collaboration with Tetsuya Hiraiwa, combines behavior, calcium imaging, and modeling to explore this flow-sensing behavior. Read the full story⤵️biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Our latest preprint is out biorxiv.org/content/10.110… . With Andreas Midlang we show that mechanics are an important driver of postembryonic nervous system maturation and metamorphic competence. Mechanics control neuronal morphology, behavior and sensory responses in Ciona larvae.
New preprint by Oleg Tolstenkov and Sissel Norland on the behavioral repertoire of the benthic ascidian Ciona intestinalis. doi.org/10.1101/2025.0… To our surprise (since Ciona adults are sessile and do not have a centralized nervous system like the larvae) Ciona adults have 1/2
