Before the match began, the official jackets of the #ChessOlympiad were presented to the Women’s team by local Member of Parliament Simeon Brown, in the presence of New Zealand Chess Federation president Nigel Metge and other officials.

Felix Xie is a 13-year-old Candidate Master from Auckland, New Zealand. His parents introduced him to chess and music at four and half years old. Chess helped him overcome the dread of losing games and taught him how to stay calm and composed after a loss.

First round of the Chess Olympiad saw both New Zealand teams win 4-0. The Open team defeated Saint Kitts and Nevis while the women beat Mali. Round two will be harder with the Open Team playing Indonesia and the Women playing Australia. #ChessOlympiad2022

Sad to report that CM Hilton Bennett has passed away at age 67. He recently came 3rd= in the over-65 group at the 2022 Asian Seniors.
