On the sign on the side of the NYSM A-train, you will see its downtown terminus—Rockaway Park, Queens. Adjacent to Rockaway Park, is Jacob Riis Park. Now called People's Beach, it has been a popular destination for LGBTQ+ beachgoers as a queer-friendly space since the 1940s.

Happy #FlagDay! 🇺🇸 Flag Day commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. Today we celebrate Flag Day by flying the American flag in front of residences, participating in parades, and hosting patriotic events.

Shouting out the 🔥🔥🔥 keynote Pedro A. Regalado just gave at the NY History Conference. Some people are brilliant. Some people are kind. Some people are clear communicators. Very few are ALL THREE but he’s one of ‘em!

The NYSM remembers former President Jimmy Carter, a leader whose legacy of service and compassion touched countless lives. Our collection includes these artifacts from his 1976 Presidential Campaign, and the NY State Archives preserves a photograph of Carter with Walter Mondale.
