Anyone else wearing a Garmin watch that tells you "Looks like you've had an easy day" right around the time when you've got two kids laugh-crying in the bath and pouring water all over the floor đŸ«„ ... ?

My hunger for this life always outpaces the time I have to learn new things. Anyone else feel this way? Like this world is a never-ending feast and you can’t get enough?

Still in the beginning of this book, but this line on societal risk aversion really struck me today: “
‘creative destruction without destruction,’ ‘capitalism without bankruptcy,’ and ‘risk without consequences’ essentially amount to Christianity without Hell.”

Strange that the bang “!” Is the only punctuation mark in English meant to convey emotion. And explanations of its origins seem a bit apocryphal.

I’ve been saying that I want to raise wild children, but having my son (20mo) has taught me that what I’m trying to do is maintain the wild that is inherent in them. Like a fire that I just need to feed. It’s self sustaining but easy to extinguish inadvertently if you ignore it.

One of my fav points in Boom is that we so clearly have not moved beyond ritual (ringing the special bell in the NYSE temple; bubbles as the sacrificial event) I always say we're so much more like our forbearers than we realize, but never as beautifully as these guys have done.

Everything will just be so perfect: your feeds, your own apps, your AI, your robots. What we’ll desire most is the unpredictability, serendipity, messiness of what only humans can achieve. Sports, theater, concerts, fireside chats, eye contact, first kiss, not knowing.

If AI means we’ll see builders in the spaces of community, religion, and friendship, I wonder how different the next few decades will feel from the cult crazed days of the 60s and 70s. Gurus and guides with the power of AI and the support of the builder ecosystem

Quotidian gestures go so much further than grand gestures. This was one of my most significant learnings when I was studying anthropology. It’s small, everyday things that make up the most meaning in our lives. Rituals, habits, little phone calls.

Seems we rarely pause in gratitude of what led us to LLMs. They’re trained on the vast corpus of human memory...etched into the internet, forged over centuries in books, stories, experiments, communal lore. If ever there was standing on the shoulders of giants, isn't this it?

My 5-year old daughter put herself to bed for the first time tonight ... somebody send the Diamond Dogs to my house please

I’ve become a fanatic about throwing away food. I hold a blueberry and think: seed, against the odds, soil, sun, water, photosynthesis!, winter, spring, bloom!, ripen, harvest, labor, trucks, grocer, in my hand
and I’m gonna throw it away?! Complete affront to the divine!

It appears that our god is money; our ritual is purchase; our devotion is attention; our saints are the wealthy; our tithe is our streaming subscriptions; our salvation is retirement. I suspect a transformation is coming.

Resist the private equity slop bowls for lunch. A carnival of vegetables and “sauces” does not a meal make. They think you’re a little piggie with no regard for tradition or craft! If there were never a grandmother involved in the recipe, I don’t want it.

Feels like there is a broad acceptance of the mystical happening right now: dragons, demons, spirits, underworld....which I think abstracts out to some cultural humility --> as in, acceptance that there is a lot we can't understand and that's fine.

I used to watch movies like Dune and LOTR and lament that I couldn’t be IN those worlds and CALLED to those missions
and later learned that it’s all there if you just make the bold choice.

Today my daughter taught me the word pronoia: the belief that the world and others are conspiring to help, support, and bring good things to you. Internet says this is a medical condition but I say that’s just big paranoia trying to squash us.
