Locations and times for potential west coast #tsunami

A tsunami advisory has been issued for coastal areas of Oregon. If you are located in this coastal area, move off the beach and out of harbors or marinas. Stay out of the water and away from shore. Follow instructions from local authorities. Stay tuned for updates. #orwx

How do tsunamis work? An earthquake underwater sends massive energy through the water. This rides relatively unnoticed for large distances traveling air airplane speeds. Then, once the ocean gets shallow the energy is forced upward, rising the water rapidly onshore.

Evacuation of coastal tsunami inundation zones should be complete by 6:15 p.m. HST. DO NOT RETURN TO THE AREA until authorities approve going back, which may take hours or days. To see whether you are in an evacuation zone, check the link in the next reply.
