We spent this morning carrying out site prep for this year's planting at the Waikākāriki Wetland. We removed a large number of brush wattles that we chopped and left a couple of years ago. It was hard work pulling them out from all under the blackberry… ift.tt/jhwgsFA

This helps to explain why we never got Raukawa geckos on our trail cameras but heaps of northern grass skinks. The theory at the time was that Raukawa geckos move too slowly to trigger the cameras. ift.tt/8Tz6vfU

Really good to see public access opening up to this area. We have been carrying out trapping and weed control operations here since 2015. ift.tt/8Tz6vfU

We had a fantastic morning planting at Pukerua Bay with a great turn out. Heartening to see all the growth of last year's planting as well and the kohekohe is having a strong flowering year too.

Great news! This is a big chunk of the land we have formally looked after since 2015 by carrying out animal pest and weed control. ift.tt/5hzfsBN

Great to see some new faces today as part of the Matariki ki Kāpiti planting organised with Māoriland Charitable Trust. Despite the rain everyone stayed until the end and we got 250 native plants into the ground with guards on.Not bad when this was head high blackberry last year!

The Waikākāriki Wetland Weed Whackers were back in action today finishing off planting the last of 600 native plants and even managed a spot of weeding. We are excited to see how this area develops over the next few years!

Before Te Araroa track was built this is what one section looked like. And the next shot is what it now looks like after all our planting.

Great to see some new new faces and some old ones today at the Waikākāriki Wetland. We spent most of the morning releasing natives, digging out blackberry and clearing celery weed from the wetland. Thanks to PK, Yvonne, Matt, Brooke, Katie and Andy.
