Dreaming of a hospital system that cares about patient care and not just treating a hospital as a business. Does this exist anymore?

The most important thing my ICU preceptor taught me was time management and I’m not talking like “pass your meds on time.” I’m talking “everything done, PT bathed, and all you have is 7am vitals cause emergencies do happen. She did not tell a lie.

I know this is probably the wildest thing to say… but I’ve been in the ICU for over a year now… and everything in my soul is telling me to go back to the ED. I miss it so much. 🙁

Does anyone work PRN PACU? Pros? Cons? I’ve been in SICU for over a year now and just looking for a PRN that’s “different” but the same. 😂

I’ve been a nurse for 2 years now. I should probably get off the “newgradkat” name. But, will I ever not feel like a new grad? Anyways here’s how work is going 🤯😅

Everyday I’m happy I stuck it out in the SICU. Those first six months handed me my ass and I wanted to quit. Fast forward 1.5 more years and I am thankful for where I am. Thankful I did not give up. 🫶🏻

I get it’s a 24/7 job however, following the same people who always leave you a mess regardless if it’s a fresh trauma or a tele transfer patient really drive me insane. 🫣

Got pulled to ED yesterday. I come from the ED but when I moved to the ICU I moved to a much bigger hospital. Level 3 trauma to level 1. I was humbled within the first 5 min. Those ED nurses really kick a**! 👏🏼

Well, my patient actually had malignant hyperthermia and you know what… that shit is just as wild as the mock inservices teach you that it is.

Quick question: did we all become nurses because we all have some sort of trauma? At least ICU nurses or any critical care nurse really? 4 of us talked yesterday about parent trauma, relationship trauma, friendship trauma or all 3. I’m like oh. Is that why we’re all here? 😂😳

My BIL matched internal medicine at the same hospital I work at! So excited. After years of being away from home completing med school he will be back home for residency! Also we took a “medical” family pic and there’s 75% of the family in it. 🤣 we said “school loans” on 3! 📸

Applying for jobs when you actually have some experience and credentials behind your name is much better than applying as a new grad not even knowing where to start. 😅

Not me interviewing at a different facility and realizing the grass is greener on the other side because there are places who water the grass the best they can instead of letting it be all dry and brown. 😅

I’ll probably never understand doctors who act like it’s a burden to be a provider. God gave you the brains and the hands to heal and yet you act like it’s the most annoying thing on the planet to be able to care for others. Makes me sad.

& for my final act of self love: somehow the universe lined up my granted date with my last shift. Now I have the ability to practice my favorite kind of goodbye. The Irish kind. 🫶🏻
