Every week Museummedia launches a new theme through #Collectievissen. This week: #pigeon. The museum owns a carrier pigeon in an American uniform. This uniform was used for short transports in which the pigeon could be tied to a soldier's uniform with a piece of string. #duif

Object of the month! This month a piece of clothing: the uniform George Clooney wore in his impersonation of lieutenant Frank Stokes (The Monuments Men, 2014). The uniform is one of the highlights in the temporary exhibition ‘The Second World War in Movies’.

Object of the month! This month a Julleuchter: a candlestick holder for the Germanic Julfest. This Julleuchter was made in the Allach porcelain factory by camp prisoners from Dachau. Want to know more? Visit the Museum from 16 March! More information: freedommuseum.com.

Every week Museummedia launches a new theme through #Collectievissen. This week #kitchen. We own this photo (April 1945). During the Dutch famine (1944–45), there was hardly any fuel. The kitchen became a tiny emergency stove. Everyone sat around it for a little bit of warmth.

Object of the month! Especially for Easter: a ‘Blue Bunny’, an electrically heated pilot suit of the American air force. Bombers flew at high altitudes where the air was freezing cold. The aircraft had no heating, so the pilots were given an electrically heated suit.

Object of the month: Resurrection by Fransje Povel-Speleers. In this tableau fallen soldiers come to life to celebrate the freedom that they themselves were no longer able to experience. Every clay figure is a portrait of a real soldier. More info? Visit us when possible again.

Every week Museummedia launches a new theme through #Collectievissen. This week: #plane. During Market Garden gliders transported soldiers and equipment to the landing fields. The American Waco CG-4A, of which a piece of cloth can be seen here, was the standard American glider.

Object of the month! A sweater made of dog hair. In 1944 a large part of the south of the Netherlands was liberated, but the middle and north were still occupied. Clothing was scarce during the occupation. Mrs. Van Ogtrop made this sweater, from the hair of her keeshond Sten.

Object of the month! This month: the Gibson Girl, an emergency radio that was used by American soldiers in the Pacific. With this emergency radio, they could call for help when a plane had crashed. Do you want to know more about this object? Visit the Freedom Museum!

We look back on an incredibly impressive afternoon! On 10 Dec, Dr Massouda Jalal and Drs Daud Allajar, gave lectures in the context of #HumanRightsDay. The central theme was the current situation in Afghanistan. They also unveiled our 1st Object of Freedom: ‘Sola the Peace Dove’.
