Struggling kids don’t make it because they are in the right class. They make it because they have the right teacher. And you can be the right teacher.

When you truly listen to students… they may end up learning more. Listening leads to understanding. Understanding generates compassion. Compassion fosters relationships. Relationships facilitate learning.

There will be circumstances this year that are out of your control. But this year, you will have the potential to impact a child’s life. And you can always control what you do with that potential.

If we don’t get to the root of the misbehavior, it is unlikely the punishment will solve the problem. Rather than trying to manage kids, it works best when we try to understand them.
