Brutalism is genuinely despised by the people in public opinion polls. It's not even partisan, everyone agrees. Government buildings are built with taxpayer dollars and should probably reflect the public's aesthetic sensibilities.

In a retail park in central Italy I once saw a grey-box-warehouse casino with a completely fake neoclassical façade. Despite the sculptures and pilasters it felt more depressing than if they just left the front bare and grey

After Modernists destroyed traditional architectural education, kitsch is the best option available on the market. What are you doing as an urbanist to rebuild architecture?

The New York Times said that this is the building that showed that brutalism could be "playful." 'This may be true, but only in the sense that the cat tormenting a mouse, or the torturer doing “eeny-meeny” to determine which testicle to zap first, is being “playful.”'....

I see a lot of houses like this being built in Charlotte NC. They seem to be generally well proportioned, decent window sizes and visually interesting, while not being unnecessarily complex. McMansions are upping their game and I love to see it… I guess?

Only 9 samples of ancient DNA from the entire Australian continent (and most less than 2000 years old) If Australia's 40,000 year-old fossil record hadn't been destroyed this map would look quite different

One of Leeds' newest triangle buildings is being unsheathed. 2020s urban renewal looks so much better than 90s and 00s urban renewal. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the ground floor units.

At the least, Japan should have a policy of dispersal to spread the new arrivals all over the country instead of concentrating them all in one future no-go ghetto. Hasn't anyone learnt from Sweden and France?

POV: You’re an urban planner in the 60s and you’re presented with two proposals for the local town centre. Were they actually insane?
