Happy birthday James Boswell, born #OnThisDay in 1740. His family seat was the grand Auchinleck House in Ayrshire. The library - where Samuel Johnson famously argued politics with Boswell's father, Lord Auchinleck - looks out towards the Isle of Arran. ow.ly/Tc2650jvzJC

An oldie but oh such a goodie, we designed and fitted this kitchen over six years ago!! It just shows you that well-made, great quality furniture really doesn't go out of style. We're just as in love with this space as we were all those years ago. #WednesdayWisdom #Love

The beautiful detail of a doorcase in the Eating Parlour of Headfort House in Kells, Co. Meath. Headfort is the only example of Adam's country house work to survive in Ireland as his previous work at Castle Upton in County Antrim was lost.

My #countryhousepic today shows Whiteknights Park, Reading, a fine 18th century house demolished in the mid 19th century when its large grounds were divided to form plots for six large Victorian villas. The site is now the campus of Reading University.

In the 1760s Rowland Holt commissioned #CapabilityBrown to redesign both the house & park at #Redgrave #Diss on the #Suffolk #Norfolk border. Brown tried (unsuccessfully) to persuade Holt to build flanking wings on house. bit.ly/2MuHp09.

Does anyone recognise this house? At a guess, probably built c.1820 somewhere in the limestone belt across central England. Plate glass windows either side of the porch a later alteration, perhaps to provide light for a serious plantsman. No clues to location.
