A must read for anyone interested in drivers for disease emergence. I particularly like this graphic, showing that transition areas (ecotones) are associated with increased disease emergence risk. thelancet.com/action/showPdf…

We are recruiting at @CBGPMontpellier, in the EcoEvoZoonoses_CBGP research group. It is a permanent position for a virologist (research engineer). He/She will work on detecting and characterizing rodent-borne viruses (immune and molecular approaches). en.ird.fr/node/8480

"To date, the number of publications that describe protein attachment to coronavirus numbers in the 10s of 1000s, this is important for vaccine development. Conversely, there has only been 1 publication about the circulation and ecology of the virus." Raina Plowright BatOneHealth

We looked for coronavirus in noddies and terns in four islands of the Western Indian Ocean. None of the 1513 samples tested positive. Couldn't find a descent journal to publish this negative result, but the (very) short report is available here: doi.org/10.1101/2023.0…

Interesting paper by Matt Betts et al in Ecology and Evolution which makes us think about why we should (or should not) state multiple alternative hypotheses in ecology and evolution. Comes w/ an analysis of trends in litterature & useful definitions. doi.org/10.1002/ece3.7… 🗞️#320-2023
