At a park in Kin, Okinawa, playing basketball with my sons when I look up and notice that Tatsu, one of my favorite #awamori, is being made just a stone’s throw away. Explains the smell. Unfortunately, closed to nosey people like myself. #Kin #金武市 #Tastu #龍酒造

Never heard/seen of this before. Kitchomu Mugijōchū by Nikaido, 25% ABV. Tasted like sterno to me, but the salarimen at the next table polished the bottle off. Little restaurant in Nakano, Tokyo had only this and Kurokiri. We are spoiled for choice in the south.

A souvenir from Taiwan 🇹🇼 If you know who is pictured on the can, you have my respect. Although he was half-Japanese, I suspect that most Japanese today have never heard of, or—hint, hint—read about, him.

The shōchū on the right (森伊蔵 Moriizō) is one of the hardest to find. In the past you had to fax the distillery and wait months or even years just for the chance to order it. Personally, I prefer the one on the left (大和桜の紅芋 Yamatozakura’s Beni Imo).
