Wes Streeting MP Please save General Practice. I can’t carry on much longer. 13 hr duty day yesterday triaging & not one single break. I ran out of appts by 2.30pm. Had to do the best I could fielding all the late calls. It didn’t feel particularly safe. Got home at 10.15pm. Fund GP properly.

Here’s an example There isn’t one marker in #NHS workforce that shows improvement Morale;Retention;Racism; Sexism etc In footballing terms? Leadership NHS England Workforce, Training and Education have ‘lost the dressing room’ You can’t change things with same leadership And you all know it too Wes Streeting MP

Shaun Lintern It’s the same playbook Colleges raising concerns Clinicians raising concerns Patients raising concerns Response from NHSE WTE et al? Carry on with increasing lesser trained people to experiment on population Someday? Look back & remember many of us raised this

We’ve seen the consequences of failing to invest in general practice and failing to retain GPs: ⬆️complaints, ⬇️satisfaction, ⬇️chances of seeing a GP. It’s not hard to imagine the benefits of doing the opposite. Invest in General Practice and GPs.

"Last year the UK’s GPs were reportedly seeing 45-50 patients a day, in stark contrast to many of our colleagues in Europe: 10 a day in Portugal and Belgium; 25 in Switzerland, Italy, and Denmark." Dr Helen Salisbury on the reality of GPs' working hours bmj.com/content/386/bm…

We’ve lost around 1700 GP from the NHS in England. Meanwhile we’re seeing partner and OOHs income decreasing, salaried GPs - 32% pay erosion. It’s not hard to anticipate the effect on GP recruitment/retention this’ll have. Not to mention the sheer dearth of NHS opportunities.

Train for 2 years as a PA, work for 5 years in inner London and earn up to £68,675. A GP - med school for 5 years (unpaid, racking up >£100,00 of debt) & minimum of 5 years post graduate training - earn as little as £73,114 £4,439 difference 🤯 The NHS does not value GPs.

We have GPs desperately looking for work. The money available to employ them isn’t there. Meanwhile GPs are burning out, having to compromise patient safety in an attempt to meet demand & patients desperate for care. Scandalous. Urgent solutions needed now Wes Streeting MP

Mark Steggles (@msteggy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

For years, due to unsafe workloads & dwindling pay, we’ve seen NHS GPs increasingly looking for exits - retire/emigrate/other role/reduce NHS work. We now have GPs who can’t find an entrance - increasing competition for fewer jobs. As a result patients struggle to see a GP.

They broke General Practice by slashing funding in real terms & overseeing the loss of nearly 1700 GPs. They tried to ‘reform’ it with £Bns spent on ARRS/PCNs. It hasn’t worked despite >31000 new staff. Invest in resolving the fundamental problems - we need more GPs.

this is a real comms challenge for GPs/RCGP/BMA/NHSE GPs are working ridiculously hard But because hard to get to get appointments Too many snarky comments suggesting somehow they are lazy/inactive Nothing could be further from the truth But people don't see the invisible work

Dr Dan Goyal (@danielgoyal) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is right at the heart of the matter… How do you expect your GP to deliver the care you need (often complex care) when they are stretched so thin they see 2 to 5 times more patients than their European counterparts? Fix this!

The number of patients a GP sees in a day 10 - Belgium 10 - Portugal 25 - Denmark 25 - Italy 25 - Switzerland 45 - UK The problem the UK has is an overworked GP workforce, a shortage of GPs, a GP contract that restricts hiring GPs, and a roll out of PAs (under qualified

Dr Sandeep Bansal (@idrsunny) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There is zero place for PAs seeing undifferentiated patients in primary care Zero I personally don’t even understand the space for PA use in primary care at all other than maybe chronic disease checks/follow ups. You only need one such case for the health economics (if you

GENERAL PRACTICE COMPLEXITY Trained 60+ GPs, despite 9-20yrs of medical experience many of these fully qualified Drs struggled with the complexity of undiagnosed, undifferentiated patients & consultation skills Medical Training can’t be replaced with patient care & safety at risk

Dr Sandeep Bansal James 🇬🇧🇭🇰 To be honest, we're struggling with ACPs too in primary care. We have one excellent one but otherwise their training isn't adequate enough for the huge range we see. The simple answer is, we need more GPs on the ground. We will be more efficient, & pts will be safer.

Either my 10yrs of training & experience + £5k in exam & course fees for MRCGP & GP VTS is required or it isn’t?! Yet ARRS staff up & down the country have replaced us & the college has campaigned for it!! 😡 😡 Which is it RCGP Kamila Hawthorne?!

So far I have had FOI responses back by groups that cover over 120 GP practices. Between them they have 65 PAs None of them have any business case None of them have any local SOPs One of them has data on patient safety/datix events across their group (involving all
