This week has made me realise the transition (and jump!) from Head of Department to Acting Assistant Head - it's feeling very real! Did the handover with new HoDs this week - stepping out of what's become a real comfort zone for the past 3 years!

Summer!! Since I have a big bday coming up and I'm soon to enter the big bad world of senior leadership, I feel I need to read more grown up books (though I'll never abandon children's literature!). Can't wait to spend mornings in bed reading...which should I start with?

Today, I said goodbye to my form of 3 years. They're a seriously awesome, talented bunch and I'll miss them dearly. I always keep the handmade cards and gifts I'm given - I know that some kids would give their teachers the moon if they could. And yes, the flamenco dancer is me💃

The start my of 40s has been epic - I've spent the past few days in an ocean of love, surrounded by friends and family, playing and partying! I spent my 30s discovering the depths of my strengths and abilities and I can't wait to see what Level 4 brings. Aging is cool! 🥳🎂

I was more anxious for my daughter receiving her GCSE results today than I was for my own, 24 yrs ago 😬. She smashed it though! But can we talk more about capped pt scores? Hadn't heard about them till today when applying for her 6th form of choice. Had to Google it in a panic!

Can't believe it's nearly the end of the holidays! 🥲 I've gone from binge watching #LoveisBlindUK to planning my first INSET segments as Assistant Head today. Gear shift! Any advice for a middle leader stepping up to SLT would be greatly appreciated!

SO important. My name is always mispronounced, and I was too shy to tell my teachers otherwise, so I feel this! Last year a child told me "You can choose what to call me, Miss" when I asked. I lectured him in owning his name! We need to empower children with this from the offset.

Two weeks in to Acting Assistant Head post and I'm walking a very steep learning curve! Seeing the school from a different angle is fascinating. Lots of firsts, lots of learning but I'm still smiling. I miss my form and my old department far more than anticipated though.

So today is day 2 of no voice, had an observation before which I spilled flask of tea (to soothe voice) on my laptop so no tech either. Then had Open Evening! Highlight of my day? The midday supervisor giving me handmade knitted socks for helping her clean up every day ❤
