I adapted this session for a review of thesis statements with my Year 13 students today as an area of improvement identified in their recent mocks. It really helped them to understand the importance of a thesis as well as the non-negotiables. Thanks Stuart Pryke & engteacherabroad ☺️

After a session with the wonderful Hartland International School Libraries today creating anthologies of engaging texts to sit alongside our KS3 curriculum, I am tucking into these two delights this evening. Starting with ‘And the Ocean was our Sky’ 🌊 A beautiful read so far! 📖

The KS4/5 Debate with Hart final today! So proud of one of the Hartland teams for making it to the final. This was an excellent debate to watch between Hartland and ETA debate club 🇺🇦 who were discussing the motion ‘This House believes that hate speech should be a criminal offence’ 🗯️🤞🏼

Spring break homework for year 10 was to create a knowledge organiser for a certain aspect of Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’ 🐭 They have produced some fantastic work that will act as brilliant revision aids through the rest of the course 👏🏼

Positive post cards and chocolate can only mean one thing… 🫣 Last day for Year 11 and 13 tomorrow before study leave - how is this day here again already!? 😱⏰📝

Year 13 promoted me to head of maths as part of their prank morning - anyone who knows my maths ability knows how laughable this is! 🤣 They also bought me the most thoughtful cake 🥹 I ‘shall miss thee sorely’ too, class of 2025! 🫶🏼

We’ve officially made it to the last week of term! It’s been a very long 12 weeks - the students are exhausted, we as staff are exhausted but sometimes these last few days are the best because when a student takes the time to say thank you, it reminds you of why we do the job🥹💛

It’s been a very busy few years - wedding planning and completing my MA Ed. Very proud to say that this morning I have submitted my dissertation bringing my MA Ed to a close 🥳 Results pending in September but a great experience! Now to get married - 13 days and counting… 🇬🇷🤍

It’s been a truly magical and memorable summer 🥹 🇬🇷❤️ Back in time for A Level and GCSE results day with a name change! Wishing all students the best of luck tomorrow and next week 🤞🏼🍀

Won a great competition with Bookworm Dubai - 1000 dirhams to set up my classroom library for the year! Although these aren’t as common in secondary, I really want to encourage my students to read more & pick up books instead of screens so this was perfect! Thank you so much👏🏼📚

On Thursday I found out that I have been awarded my MEd with Distinction 🥹 This is a particularly proud achievement as this qualification coincided with my first year as Head of English whilst also planning our wedding making it a very busy (and at times, stressful) year! 📚✨

Inspired by the wonderful OU/UKLA RfP group based in Dubai, I want to create a space where reading for pleasure is celebrated and students are encouraged to enjoy reading. 📚✨ This little corner in my classroom is a starting point with a range of genres and text types 👩🏻‍🏫📖
