Pottering round Madrid

Bus out of Madrid today about 45 mins north to Manzanares el Real where we hiked in the La Pedriza park to Charco Verde (Green Pool) sadly not able to swim, but stunning walking thru pines and granite tors really made us think of US rock country

Waited 32 years to see Guernica in the flesh and it did not disappoint. Stunning in its presence, urgency, anger & uncompromising message, it speaks strongly of the power of human response to conflict and loss. As timelessly relevant now as ever. Powerful stuff. Iconic

Day trip to Segovia to see the amazing Roman Aqueduct - very impressive. Guiness World Records list it as the longest still in use at 20 miles

Some final views of Toledo - we walked across the medieval bridge to the other side of the river to see the classic view of the town from the far bank

We then transferred to Brescia - a fascinating mix of distant historical periods, from Flavian Rome (amazing remains) through the Venetian-Palladian era & even some significant Fascist era architecture. A lovely town to while away a few hours on the way home
