Will the Texas legislative session end with no raise for teachers, no funding for school safety, and no increase in the Basic Allotment? Really? Even with a $32 billion budget surplus? Really??

Texas AFT Matt Shaheen Both of my parents worked in public education as teachers, counselors, administrators. I can’t believe that we are this close to the session ending with no pay raise for our teachers. Especially when teachers are quitting at an ALARMING rate. Come on #txlege!!

I am confused? Why fund the Teacher Vacancy Task Force and listen to NONE of what was suggested? I have stayed quiet long enough— I am frontline to Texas Public Education. Our future deserves better. #txlege #txed

Just 1 in 5 public school teachers said carrying firearms would make schools safer, while more than half (54%) said it would make schools less safe, according to a nationally representative survey just released by RAND Corp. rand.org/pubs/research_…

As ISDs adopt budgets & compensation for schools, I’m reminded of Greg Abbott Teacher Vacancy Task Report’s top recommendation: “Increase overall compensation and support strategic compensation strategies”. Credibility isn’t measured by a task force, but rather the response.

Last night the Pearland ISD School Board did something that the State of Texas with a $32 billion surplus budget could not do - give educators more money. We are not done and will continue to work to allocate more funds to our staff.

Thankful to our Temple ISD Board of Trustees for approving a 3% pay increase for all employees. This is a minimum raise, w/ potential for more, contingent upon the TX Legislature. We waited as long as we could for legislative support. My staff & their families will wait no more!

The TX Gov called a 2nd special #txlege session to eliminate M&O property taxes. Here's what those are: - M&O = Maintenance and Operations - These are the bulk of your local property taxes that fund local public schools

#Texas educators suffer the pain of being underpaid. Rural teachers in places like Alpine earn $20k less than teachers in cities like SA. I’m proud the #TexasSenate was able to approve a bonus for teachers, but we must do more to raise pay & close the gap. #txlege #TxEd
