Marble Madness today in Science. Students were challenged to design a track to keep a marble on a vertical board for as long as possible. Students observed the effects of friction and gravity during the marble’s run. Canon-McMillan Middle School

Hurricanes designed and built rubber band race cars today in science. Students investigated how forces and energy affected the speed of their race car. Canon-McMillan Middle School

Hurricanes investigated collisions and the law of conservation of momentum today in lab Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes found the mechanical advantage of simple machines today in lab. Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes designed and built model roller coasters today in science! After learning about potential and kinetic energy, students designed a roller coaster that would take a marble through the track and into a cup at the end of the ride without knocking it over. Canon-McMillan Middle School

After comparing saltwater vs freshwater properties, the Hurricanes built a “saltwater circuit” today in class Canon-McMillan Middle School

Today the Hurricanes competed in the annual Egg Drop Competition. The goal is to design a container to protect the egg from breaking while keeping it close to a target. Congratulations to the overall champion Tyler C! Canon-McMillan Middle School

We mourn the passing of astronaut Bill Anders, lunar module pilot for Apollo 8, and backup pilot for the Gemini XI and Apollo 11 flights. One of the first three people to travel beyond the reach of our Earth and orbit the Moon, Anders took the legendary Earthrise photo. More on

Marble Run Lab in Science. Students had to keep the marble moving and on the board as long as possible. Canon-McMillan Middle School

After finishing a unit on Forces and Motion, the Hurricanes designed and built Rubber Band Race Cars today in science! Students calculated speed, identified forces, and applied Newton’s Laws after their build. Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes built electromagnets today in class! Canon-McMillan Middle School Canon-McMillan School District

Students designed roller coasters! After learning about potential and kinetic energy, students were challenged to design a ride to take a marble through a loop and into a cup at the end of the track. Canon-McMillan Middle School

Using materials provided, the Hurricanes designed a toy to teach the concept of potential energy to elementary students. Students tested a prototype then redesigned as needed to meet the criteria set. Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes investigated how igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks move through the rock cycle today in lab. Canon-McMillan Middle School

Today the Hurricanes learned how different temperatures affect the density of water and how this can influence ocean currents around the world. Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes investigated moon phases 🌙 and eclipses today in class. Canon-McMillan Middle School

Before starting “A Long Walk to Water” in English, students modeled how water moves into the ground in aquifers and how wells tap into this for people to use. They also did a water scarcity lab in English today before starting the book next week. Canon-McMillan Middle School

The Hurricanes used spectroscopes to observe spectral lines and learn how astronomers know what gases stars are made of. Canon-McMillan Middle School

2025 Egg Drop! The goal is to design a container to protect the egg from breaking while keeping it close to a target. Congratulations to the overall champion Sevara A! Canon-McMillan Middle School
