Today marks the armistice that ended the fighting in WWI, and this article is heart-wrenching. Imagine getting the telegram that a loved one died after the decision was made to stop the fighting.

I had my APUSH kids write an obituary to mourn the passing of the Articles of Confederation. They had to focus on the birth, death, and the accomplishments of the Articles in the obit. There were lots of creative responses, to say the least. Here's just a small sample:

On this day in 1898, the USS Maine explodes in Havana harbour killing 258 sailors. America blames Spain and soon declares war. It's later revealed that the blast was likely the result of an accident on board.

On this day in 1066, William of Normandy's 700-ship fleet sets sail from France for England. Just 17 days later, he'll crush Harold II at the Battle of Hastings.

Today in my WWII class, we tried to re-create the experience of a dive bomber pilot. I was the plane, and students had to dive, drop the bomb, and pull up before crashing. We had one successful drop, every other time I hit the "water." Hopefully they had some fun with it!
