Decades before Joe Sacco redefined comics as reportage, Chittaprosad turned his art into protest, documenting the Bengal Famine with unflinching honesty. His work captured the horror, humanity, and injustice - India's pioneer of visual storytelling as activism.

Thank you Romila Thappar! One of the latest disappointments for me was Anand Patwardhan blaming the left academics for the rise of the right in India. I was shocked to hear him label Arundhati Roy's profound and deeply researched piece as "ahistorcal" #bullshit is right.

A few days ago I had a terrible Uber taxi experience. The driver was called Gabbar and would not drive the car up to the point I was standing, a few metres away. After I got in with my eleven yr old daughter he started singing an inappropriate song very loudly.

Unnerved, I asked him why he's singing this way. He replied, "I want to". He proceeded to say "Sister, if you dont like it I'll stop. Now tell me you will forgive me". I ignored him but I noticed his reddened eyes in the mirror and general aggressive driving and just asked him

to stop by the side of the road. Had to ask a few times before ge did. We got off. I had to pay the whole amount even though it had been 3 mins. I called Uber to report the incident. I had a person reassure me that they take this very seriously and he would be putting me in touch

with an appropriate authority and explain the details to her. She was also very good at the 'speak' assuring me that they would deal with this very strictly and do not take this lightly. I was told they would be keeping me updated with every action taken at their end.

It has been three weeks since the incident where I was assured action within a few hours and NOT A SINGLE MESSAGE from Uber about absolutely any action against the horrific invudent whatsover. This level of double speak is what systains violence against women. Uber India
