As far as I know, I'm the longest-running editor of Eater Portland. It's a hard job. We pack a ton into each day. And still, it has been full of so much joy. I am so grateful for every person who has spoken to us for a story, every tipster, every freelancer, every reader. Thank you.

Do other journalists wake up in the middle of the night and send themselves emails about things they want to make sure they add to a story draft? You guys do it too, right? 😵‍💫

“When helping 2 coordinate a pic assignment, resist the urge 2 ask when someone is “free” or “available” for a pic. The only kind of pic that leads 2 is a posed portrait. Ask, instead, when the source is busy. This gives the photog the chance 2 see the source in a natural state.”

I really wish more people understood what it means to be an introvert. Yet another person this week gave me that line: “How can you say you’re an introvert?! You’re so outgoing and charming with everyone when you’re out in public!” Ugh. People, that’s not what it’s about.🤦‍♂️

It is much easier to continually look up the mountain to our next summit, and far harder to look back down to see how far we have come I’m learning more and more that if you aren’t enjoying the journey, no arrival will ever make it worth it. Financial. Career. Or otherwise 2/

But realistic because no one bothered to tell the photo desk or loop in a photographer about the trip and now the story is slotted as the Xmas day front page centerpiece and the editors are sitting Dec. 24th morning budget meeting wondering what photo has for “art” on the package

I'm not here to defend my corporate overlords, but this is incredibly insulting to the reporters in Salem going to the Capitol, talking to residents and doing watchdog reporting every day. I have spent the last four years of my life attending every city council meeting.
