On pg 83Jenkins says, "Targets of negative stereotypes could also simply avoid threatening situations by carefully conducting research on where to go to school, where to accept a job offer...." This is so backwards & society should work to eliminate this as a whole. #edlr5402

Hooks says,"The assumption that the poor are more in need of material help than of the resources to build healthy self-esteem is false."This is true for our staff& students too.w/o proper mental health, we cannot expect anyone to learn/teach/etc to their full potential. #edlr5402

Hooks says, "If black children could not see the predominantly white classroom as a safe place, then how could we relax enough to learn there- to excel?" Great question that we need to always consider when we have students entering our rooms with outside trauma. #EDLR5402

We need to reflect on our own intentions and how it relates to any biases we may still hold. Elimination of microaggressions, which are usually unintentional, is necessary to improve the equity and justice work we are doing in and outside of our schools #edlr5402

After reading Jenkins' article on stereotypes,it is clear to be aware of the diversity you're working w/(adults or students) &to ensure they're in a safe environment w/ you. You must also work to make sure stereotypes are eliminated& everyone is on an even playing field #edlr5402

My #edlr5402 takeaway: Administration can be an isolating job, but we must work together throughout the state and stay connected, especially in regards to social justice. Lots of action just to check boxes but we need a consistent plan!!
