Try This 👇️ Your melody should ebb and flow and so should your counter melody! Try to make them move at different times to avoid confusing rhythms and make your melodies fit together like a puzzle! 🎶 from @somewhereinbetweenmovie #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas

Try This 👇️ If you want to mix your live recordings with samples then try setting the microphone very close to the sound source. If you are recording a solo line then try giving more space from the sound source. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Send your signal at 0.0 with a Pre-Fader send to a new bus. Add creative effects and processes to this duplicate copy of your track, including panning and EQ. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Take your melody line and cycle it through different instrument ranges to keep it fresh. Play it in different ranges in the Strings, Winds, and Brass and see which color shifts you can create. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ When collaborating with a director, don’t try to speak to them using music terminology. Instead, ask about characters, points of view, intentions, etc… These will help you understand the needs of the project more rather than choosing which sounds to use. #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Take a recording of an instrument and add it to a sampler. Time Stretch and or Pitch shift the sounds. Choose which parts of the recording to use. Map the sounds to the keyboard. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Once you map out where to place your themes, step away from the picture and just focus on the music. If you orchestrate and arrange away from picture, I guarantee your music will flow and fit the picture in a more supportive way. #musicproductiontips #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Choose your weakest section of the orchestra and try to limit yourself by writing a 2-3 minute track using only these instruments. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Open an EQ to see where the lowest fundamental note is in your recording. Use a hard low-cut filter just below this frequency. This will prevent unwanted low end from being amplified through your mix. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

This is the secret sauce 👇️ The Saxophones are an incredibly versatile family of instruments. Try replacing your oboe with a soprano sax or adding a sax to your trumpets or trombones to balance them as a section. #musicproductiontips #12daysofchristmas #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Record a unique sound with whatever you have, even if it’s just your phone! Plug this audio into a sampler, every DAW has one. Map this across the the keyboard, apply some effects, and use your unique library that only you have access to! #filmmusic

Try This 👇️ Write a simple 16th note pattern in a simple meter like 4/4. Add accents to odd beats like every 3rd or 2nd beat alternating. This will make it really easy to add odd meters like a bar of 3/8, 5/8, or 11/8 to hit specific hit points.
