Sad to see this article seems to miss the crucial point that exploratory research needs to be transparently and clearly demarcated from confirmatory research. We need more exploration, and as far as I know that's widely accepted in #openScience We just need less equivocation.

To state the obvious: the relentless persuit of capital (impact factor, publication quantity, patents, etc) is the downfall of science. It turns us all into bean counters, & devastates the ability and incentive to persue knowledge for it's own sake.
