The anti-shipping operations conducted at RAF Bircham Newton and by Coastal Command in general is something I often talk about with visitors when they come on an open day. It was an immensely difficult task wreathed with danger. Many airmen lost their lives on such operations,

The Avro Anson was one of Coastal Command's front-line aircraft at the outbreak of WW2. Used in many different roles, one of the least talked about uses? The 20mm Hispano they mounted underneath. You had to lie on your stomach in the fuselage in order to fire it. This is the

Recently, I've been doing some research into the Canadian airmen to serve with 407 "Demon" Squadron at RAF Bircham Newton during WW2. One of them, James Creeden, only 20 years old, was killed on the black night of the 15.5.1942. Heavily damaged by flak attacking a German Convoy,

As with many RAF stations during WW2, notable figures would pass through on visits, some caught in the lens of a camera, some not. One that was photographed at Bircham Newton in 1942 was a visit by HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, rocking his stylish shades in the photo.

RAF Bircham Newton Heritage Centre is open to the public this coming Sunday, from 10 am until 4 pm! Hopefully, we'll get a few visitors to explore the history of the former RAF Station and its 44 years of active service, 1918-1962. Operated as part of 16 Group RAF Coastal Command

Binged the Hiroshima episodes, on the WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk, as usual, excellent talking, interesting, and enjoyable. Given me plenty to think about. Ive been to Japan twice, I visited Yasukuni-Jinja Shrine and museum last time I went, bit of a controversial place for the Japanese,

After market stickers for the Wimpy I’m building. I’m torn between the 40 Sqn markings and the 311 Sqn markings. I know which Jamie Heffer would choose…

Channelling my inner walking the ground for today's open day at RAF Bircham Newton Heritage Centre by rocking the WTG shirt from WW2 Headquarters, becoming tradition to wear it for good luck. Hopefully, we will get a few visitors through!

Had a fantastic day at RAF Bircham Newton Heritage Centre. Met some very interesting people and waffled at them about the war years. One very kind lady brought in her fathers wartime flying logbook, and he served with No. 254 Squadron, some of his time was at Bircham Newton!

Enjoyed the WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk livestream on Monday night by Al Murray 🇺🇦 James Holland, the focus shifting once again to the BoB. Thankful for the shout-out on Coastal Command & FAA. James is right, it was a battle against the RAF, not just Fighter Command. The Squadrons at Bircham

VJ day marked the end of the Second World War. The cost, high. At RAF Bircham Newton, the final toll of lives lost, 541 servicemen, from 1939 - 1945. Their names are all recorded on the Roll of Honour inside the Heritage Centre. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be
