🧵THREAD: I can’t believe I have to explain to y’all why asking disabled people to wait outside and be bought out a coffee - instead of making businesses accessible to all - is unacceptable, but here we are. (OP name redacted because I don’t agree with Twitter pile-ons)

We are disabled because people decided to put brick & cement together in an arbitrarily inaccessible way. Read this and you’ll see that we’re all fed up of the barriers. There’s a simple solution - build more accessible homes 🏡 bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/artic…

Thank you National Housing Federation for giving me the opportunity to start a conversation alongside @Habinteg and Homefinder UK about how we can remove societal barriers and make accessible housing a priority.

All the headlines today read “Vaccines start for over 70s” instead of “Vaccines start for over 70s and CEV people of all ages”. Disabled people are being forgotten, again. Sums up people’s attitudes throughout the pandemic.

I first wrote this piece a little while ago on how disabled people have been treated like an afterthought in the pandemic. Fast forward to now & it’s still happening. Please read this & help me start a conversation. This affects all of us. lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-and… Law Society Gazette

I am horrified and disgusted by this. Disabled people have value. We shouldn’t be segregated or deemed less worthy of love. What is so hard to understand?! And people wonder why we feel like second class citizens and burdens. This will never be okay.

This headline is REALLY awful and REALLY anger inducing "Disabled people made up 60% of fatalities last year" This should be all over the news right now as a huge scandal. We need to do something about this, right now. Anyone got any big ideas for campaigning?

I’m watching Sia’s movie, in order to write a detailed & chronological review (so that nobody else watches it out of curiosity). But for now, I just want the public to see a few things that speak for themselves, starting with this image:

Disabled people aren’t mentioned in this article. Yet 60% of Covid-related deaths were of disabled people. Where will the scrutiny be on that? The government needs to recognise the awful inequality this pandemic exacerbated. Stop making us an afterthought. theguardian.com/politics/2021/…

. cocktheplay very disappointed to see that this play is in a wholly inaccessible venue. I was so excited when I saw this was showing next year, only to find that, as a wheelchair user, I can’t attend. What are you doing about this? @_elliottharper Taron Egerton Jade Anouka

This is just horrific. Disabled people treated like the very worst criminals, denied their lives and their liberty, because the state refuses to provide reasonable care This should be a national scandal but ableism means people are happy to look away bbc.co.uk/news/uk-593888…

My honest opinion is that wheelchair users should get concessions on airfares as well as help with carer tickets. We do not get an equal service, bottom line. Why should we pay the same fare as those who don't get treated like a piece of luggage? bbc.co.uk/news/disabilit…
