Fun grafting along the Lincs coast today at Donna Nook/Rimac/Saltfleetby. 1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Firecrests, 2 Ring Ouzels, 30+ Brambling and 1000’s of thrushes the best I could conjur, biggest surprise was an adult Turtle Dove at Donna Nook though weirdly (unringed)!

3 years ago today, a Pallas’s Warbler fresh in-off the sea on a foggy barren Breach at Spurn, hopping around our feet. Can’t say I’ve seen something similar since 😂

That time of the year again, not so hard to spot this one though, pretty much out in the open. Really crisply plumaged bird. [Jack Snipe, Nottinghamshire]

Feels like you spend so much of the year looking for scarcer species, that you almost forget to make the most of some of our resident birds. Crossbills galore in the forest country of Nottinghamshire yesterday, love winter birding here.

Review of the Week: 27 October-2 November 2025 There were plenty of treats, including Siberian Rubythroat, Isabelline Shrike and two Oriental Turtle Doves, and a trick, in the form of a Boat-tailed Grackle. Miles 'Nando's' Cluff reports: bit.ly/3JfloRJ

Leicestershire on a golden run of birds the past few months. This Dusky Warbler was a fantastic find by Mark Andrews at Aylestone Meadows, just outside Leicester City today. Some surprisingly good views, madly vocal too, never stopped calling. Really enjoyable bird

Some photos of last month’s Baird’s Sandpiper at Rutland Water, taken while I was slowly sinking into the mud, wouldn’t recommend

I’m a big fan of habitat shots, this one of a 1st-winter Caspian Gull on patch yesterday is one of my favourites I’ve taken 🤥 [in Netherfield, Nottinghamshire]

Long-tailed Duck is always a nice treat to see in Notts, given that I don’t get the chance to go to the coast all that much. This juvenile drake at Kilvington Lakes yesterday was feeding surprisingly close to the shore. Notts Birdwatchers

Review of the Week: 24-30 November 2025 Killdeer, Black-browed Albatross, Eastern Black Redstart and 'queen eider' made for an excellent late autumn period of discoveries. Miles Cluff rounds up the action: bit.ly/3MbhWZl

Saw some great birds in Norfolk this weekend, but you really struggle to beat a Firecrest. They could take over the world and I’d still never tire of seeing them. [one of at least five at Titchwell RSPB]

You can always count on a Firecrest for a little ray of sunshine on a dull day. [one of at least five at Titchwell RSPB, Norfolk over the weekend]

Big fan of Crossbills if you couldn’t tell. Some pretty extraordinary views in Nottinghamshire so far this winter, including 60-70 birds on Tuesday early doors.

Jumped at the first opportunity I could get to go and see the Eastern Black Redstart at Filey (yesterday). Wanted to see one of these for ages, every bit as good as I’d hoped 🍊
