Today we were granted access to the "FOX Model" here at Fox 5, which is a weather model developed by meteorologist Jim Weber down in Tampa. Will be fun to track its skill & performance here are we head into summer. It's got some rain showers rolling in late tomorrow night!

Summer has come early in DC...highs this afternoon more typical of the middle of June. We'll do it again tomorrow! 🔥🌡️

Leftovers from a storm complex coming through Ohio and Kentucky expected to shift eastward towards DC late tonight/overnight. While severe cells seem possible west of I-81, the complex is expected to weaken to just scattered showers before it reaches DC.

Will have to keep a close eye on the weekend as well. European and AIFS (shown) suggest the risk for a cutoff low. Could lead to a much more cloudy, showery pattern by the weekend into early next week. Monitoring. 🌧️

Unfortunately the European & as of this evening, the GFS (American) models are now both leaning towards a cutoff low feature this weekend, meaning both Saturday & Sunday will likely have shower & storm risks. Showers may linger well into next week as well. Tough pattern!

Here's how the Fox Model sees the weekend outlook. First half of Saturday look nice, but hot. Scattered storms then likely later in the day. Sunday you can see the upper low spinning out in the Midwest. Will keep us unsettled the front half of next week. No washouts, but showery.

We've seen a few localized pop-up thunderstorms fire in the heat of the afternoon, but these have been quick movers. An isolated storm will remain in the forecast through this evening. Expect more on Saturday.

SPC has our western zones at a "slight risk" (level 2/5) for severe weather on Saturday. Not thinking it's too widespread, but one or two cells could be on the strong side. Later afternoon showers and storms look to linger into Sunday morning as well.

Scattered storms I-95 and west this afternoon & evening but today’s models really holding off on the more widespread shower activity until much later tonight.

Cells are isolated but those that are out there are on the stronger side! Some big hail reports today from these cells ⛈️

Storms mostly on the south-to-north track though a few have fired just north of the city. They remain most widespread west of town. ⛈️

Always funny to see storms moving from east to west in this region. Cutoff lows to our west will do that! Isolated severe weather is possible again this afternoon. Because of the increased shear we can’t totally rule out a tornado risk, though not expecting any sort of outbreak.

Best shot for any severe weather around DC today would likely come from the cluster of cells that's near Richmond at this hour. 3kmGRAF suggest these would approach DC between 6:30-7:30pm. Once that batch moves though, looks quieter the rest of the night.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch threat up from 40% to 60% as the National Weather Service monitors the storms advancing northward out of the Richmond area towards DC.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for DC, Baltimore...and many surrounding counties until midnight tonight as a strong line of thunderstorms pushes northward out of central Virginia. Several warned storms are moving into southern portions of Northern Virginia as we speak.

A number of strong to severe thunderstorms pushing up through northern Virginia at this hour. Some VERY heavy rains and a lot of lighting in this cluster. Seek shelter until this has passed by!
