Devastated by this news. Dennis was a huge supporter of Saluki Softball ! He was a good friend to the program but more importantly to me personally. Prayers to his family.

Public shoutout and special thanks to SIUC_Police for calling for the ambulance immediately. And thanks to the police and the Hill Gang who I'm told kept Dennis comfortable till the ambulance arrived.

The moral for fans and media: be realistic when a player says "I'm back" or "I'm committed." Even if it is "God's plan." It may be a negotiating ploy.

Thursday began with lunch with Wes Wilkins at Midland's. Then Lindenwood v SEMO in Cape & a great visit w/ Saluki Baseball HOF'er, PJ Finigan of Lindenwood University Baseball. Love that PJ wears Cal's #, 37. It concluded w/ a session at Katie O'Ferrell's with @JeffHonza of SEMO. Get Rowdy.

AD Advisors, a consulting firm for athletic departments, released today a comprehensive study on the basketball transfer portal dating back to 2019. It found that 65% of D1 basketball athletes who entered the portal either transferred down a level or didn’t find a home.

People like Luke Martin,Tim McCaughan,Tom Weber, will do official search but besides the Hawkins & Welch father/son, how many fathers and sons have played Saluki Basketball ?! Harvey Welch (1952-54)/Brian Welch (1983-1987) Shane Hawkins (1995-1998)/Caden Hawkins (Begins 2025-26)

I get it. But, please consider this, too, about the issue: the ones that went P4 weren't coming here anyway. Rest went low D1 or, if mid D1, you'd consider a lesser league. Blanket statements pro or con aren't accurate imo.

UPDATED list of John A. Logan College players whove signed with SIU Basketball. It is 10 with addition of two walk-ons named Wright. Thanks for the input, as always!

"Here's what $400k will get you for 1 season in 2025: a mid-major guy..." Mids have to pay 100k+ now. Players must be ready for ALL that goes with $. Once their salaries are known social media will be relentless if they don't perform. They'll need help. cbssports.com/college-basket…
