Research into several state voucher programs has shown many voucher recipients already were enrolled in private schools. That means universal vouchers could drive up costs by creating two parallel education systems — both funded by taxpayers. stateline.org/2025/05/20/rap…

Will the Texas Senate have the courage to pass the House bill on public education funding, or will they default to their war on public schools? Brandon Creighton

Really glad to see more mainstream outlets beginning to cover the impact that school vouchers are having on state budgets. Note that redirecting resources to the wealthy and crowding out spending on public education and social programs is a design feature not a bug

Why is it so hard to convince Republicans that limited government is a guiding principle, not something to be discarded whenever you want to? #txlege

Superintendent Ott - I would love to know your thoughts on the new bill on education funding that is currently being considered in the Texas Senate. Bobby Ott

Any new Txlege bill that improves a school’s ability to enforce and administer school discipline should also direct Texas Education Agency to change their rules on disproportionate discipline or any other negative impact for assigning discipline. Otherwise you can’t easily enforce rules.

As negotiations around HB 4 (the assessment and accountability bill) continue, it is critical to remember that abolishing STAAR is not enough. The A-F system needs new indicators so no child or school is labeled on the basis of a single test or measuring instrument.

The people of Texas need to decide: Do they want to continue voting for someone who only represents the wealthy? If so, vote for Gov. Abbott. Or do we vote for someone who will represent the rest of us? Then we need to vote against Gov. Abbott.

The honorable Senator would have you believe the same isd folks who got steamrolled over ESAs somehow had the power to stop this bill. The original house bill without senate changes was widely supported.

It may be time to start replacing people in the Texas Senate. The House passed an education funding bill that was changed in the Senate. The House passed a bill to get rid of the STAAR test, and it was killed in the Senate. Kelly Hancock

How many Republicans in Texas complained about superintendents making too much? Here is the state-appointed superintendent making more than 1/2 a million dollars. It seems they are only upset when someone else pays them a high salary. #txlege
