The reasons people become undocumented are varied. Rather than looking at how people who have lost their status can be "returned" elsewhere, we need to be looking at how their status can be regularised. Many are people who have built lives here. migrantvoice.org/home/editorial…

It isn't just the overt use of hateful language which needs addressing. The negative, and often dehumanising, framing of migration has become mainstreamed by politicians and the media. We need a complete shift in the way migrants are spoken about, and to. theguardian.com/politics/artic…

When you enforce a hostile environment, and pit communities against each other, anti-migrant and racist violence becomes inevitable. In the wake of this month’s violence, we wrote to the Home Secretary – with 100+ orgs – to demand our govt drops the hostility and change course!

Becoming undocumented can leave people feeling like they have no control over their own lives, left in limbo and unsure what to do. We need to change the systems so that they can have the security of being able to have a recognised status.

People who had already fled horrific situations abandoned in hotels while violent thugs tried to set them alight. We absolutely need better protection for people seeking asylum, and for them to be treated with basic respect and dignity. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

People do not choose to become undocumented. As seen here with Farhad, it can often happen through no fault of their own, and see the lives they have built here utterly destroyed. This is why we need policies which make it easier to get a recognised status manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…

Whether it is people seeking asylum or those who have become individual, inhumane policies which demonise people cost far more than those which provide safety and security, money which could be used to help everyone. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Many people, not just students, can fall prey to these types of scams. It can leave them undocumented, through no fault of their own, and having lost thousands of pounds. It is crucial that we have systems in place which protect migrants. bbc.com/news/articles/…

We are proud to have added our voice to this Migrant Voice 🧡 letter signed by 80+ orgs. People become undocumented for many different reasons. Rather than detention, we urgently need ways to make it easier for them to have a secure status. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

Yet more tragic loss of life in the channel. While our thoughts are with the loved ones of those who have lost their lives it will take more than thoughts to prevent further loss of life in the future. It needs to be made safer and simpler to seek asylum. bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn9l…

We stand with Migrant Voice 🧡 in urging the Govt. to make it easier for people to regularise their immigration status. People become undocumented for many different reasons, often through no fault of their own. Detention & deportation is not the answer. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

It's not enough to fine firms while those who have been forced into working for them are detained and deported. We need a fairer, better, system which helps people regularise their residence status so they aren't put into positions of being exploited. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

There is a moral imperative to ensure people can seek asylum without being forced into making dangerous journeys. Without implementing ways for them to do so more safely and simply, and centering the discussion on their experiences, that won't happen. bbc.com/news/articles/…

There can be no debate about asylum, or any aspect of immigration, which isn't centred on the voices and experiences of those most affected, asylum seekers and other migrants. Policies which don't listen to them are doomed to repeat mistakes of the past. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
