How come some adaptations have nothing in common with the source material it's based off of? They either change the whole thing yet still have refrineces but they don't make sense or takes the meaning away because it's not in the right order. Why bother with the adaptation then?

I'm done with adaptations taking strong, funny, sweet, caring, protective & attractively described male characters & making them wimpy, bland, not smart, annoying & not even close to the description of the guy. At that point, who not write your own story?
