I did another half marathon - 30 mins faster than just a few months ago. Who says you can’t keep improving in your stroke recovery with a dollop of determination and good rehab. #thrivingafterstroke Stroke Association

Brilliant opportunity to share the positive impact that having an advanced practice role in stroke rehabilitation in the community has had on both the lives of people after stroke, their families and the wider stroke MDT. Thank you Alison Whear #UKSF2024

Dr Terry Quinn💙 harnessing the messages from the Beatles, reminding us of the ‘long and winding road’ of life after stroke and the need for us to zoom out and consider stroke within the wider context of brain health, mental health, frailty #uksf24

#UKSF24 Prof Terry Quinn - excellent presentation challenging the stroke community to “zoom out”… rather than focussing in, specialising too far and working in silos. Priorities - recognising multimorbidity, frailty awareness, social determinants, rehab and life after stroke.

Great question in the fatigue/sleep session about delivering intensity in the context of fatigue 👏- recognition and support of fatigue, scheduling, codesigning therapy programmes, and remembering that exercise doesn’t make fatigue worse #UKSF24

#UKSF24 knowing no bounds, persisting with rehab. Brilliant talk from Jason Parker highlighting the benefit of rehab and the inequities of access. We will continue to work for equitable access to needs led community rehab.

'Rehabilitation is often secondary prevention.' A point well made by @WesStreeting. 👆 Improved access to rehabilitation would support more stroke survivors to recover well, reduce their risk of another stroke, prevent hospital readmission, and reduce future demand on the NHS.

Fabulous event today with the Stroke Association and sponsored by Stratford and Bow MP Uma Kumaran. Highlighting the importance of specialist stroke care. Crucial that we continue to make stroke a priority if we are to prevent strokes and reduce mortality and disability.

Almost two years ago, Mark suffered from a stroke, which left him unable to use his left arm or walk. With the help of physiotherapist Zoe and the team at University Hospitals Sussex, Mark regained his independence, returned to work and can now walk unaided.

Here at UHD, volunteers play a priceless role in our hospitals as they go about their tasks and improve people’s lives, whether that’s patients, visitors, or staff. A big thank you to Ryan here for explaining why he enjoys volunteering so much 🤗 #VolunteersWeek2025 #TeamUHD

Thrombectomy not only saves lives – it restores quality of life. But too many stroke patients miss out on this game-changing treatment, due to service delivery constraints. Thank you Foysol Choudhury MBE MSP for championing round-the-clock treatment to #MakeStrokeAPriority in Scotland.
