Excited to share our work on spontaneous whole-genome duplication (autodiploidization) in budding yeast, published in #G3journal Genetics Society of America. In short: A single gene, SSD1, has a strong effect on autodiploidization. academic.oup.com/g3journal/adva…

Our work, and the monster SI, was a true tour de force by my amazing labmates (Katherine Lawrence and Artur Rego-Costa) and I. A great set of music playlists, costumes, beers and games pulled us through. Enjoy the preprint - we sure are glad this is out. 4/4

We (Michael Desai and I) just published a preprint about evolution and epistasis! We measured the effects of ~100 insertion mutations in clones isolated over the course of ~10K generations of evolution. Short thread w main figs below + preprint here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Why do some mutations' effects seem to depend on starting fitness? We developed a Cre/Lox CRISPR gene-drive system ==> expanding gRNA array, to pop open the hood on 'global epistasis'. Chris Bakerlee, Kate Shulgina, josé in Michael Desai lab. Read here: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Thrilled to announce the Phillips lab is opening UC San Francisco in Sept! We’ll be developing high-throughput methods to examine how molecular properties of viral proteins & antibodies constrain their evolution/coevo. If interested in joining, please reach out! aphillipslab.ucsf.edu/join-us

Excited to share our work on epistasis shaping the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 BA.1 — had a blast working on this with Alief Moulana @ThomasDupic Jeffrey Chang, Michael Desai & Bloom Lab: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

now published: spatial structure can really change the signature of genetic hitchhiking, even in populations that look basically well-mixed academic.oup.com/genetics/advan…. work with Jiseon Min Misha Gupta Michael Desai

Excited to share our work on antibody affinity landscapes of SARS-CoV-2 BA.1--had so much fun working with @ThomasDupic, Angela Phillips, Jeffrey Chang, Michael Desai, and Bloom Lab biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

The ability of #SARSCoV2 Omicron to evade immunity is associated with the acquisition of multiple interacting mutations that maintain affinity for the ACE2 receptor Alief Moulana @ThomasDupic Angela Phillips Michael Desai #Omicron go.nature.com/3XEEEtV

#PRXLife editorial board member Michael Desai investigates how evolutionary forces shape genetic variation in populations like microbes and viruses. At Harvard University, Michael Desai also studies diversity of adaptive #immunity as it pertains to natural selection in budding yeast.

Excited to announce that I've officially joined PrincetonPhysics as an assistant professor. Super grateful to my mentors - Massimo Vergassola, Venki Murthy, Michael Desai, and many others. The website is up: reddylab.physics.princeton.edu. Join us!
