Following five wonderful years as a postdoctoral research fellow at McMaster University under the expert guidance of Stuart Phillips (he/him) , as of 1st July 2024, Iâm very excited to share that Iâm starting a new position as an Assistant Professor in Nutrition and Healthy Aging in UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems at University of British Columbia

Had a great time at International Biochemistry of Exercise Conference in Limerick. Saw some interesting posters, heard great talks, made new friends. Always a treat at #IBEC2024. Excited for the next round in Virginia!

đš PhD opportunity đš to be advertised soon, working with myself, Nathan Hodson, @Doc_Morse Craig Sale Hector Chinoy and others, investigating the mechanisms of and interventions for muscle loss in inclusion body myositis. If interested, please get in touch [email protected]

Some very cool research here from Jonathan Mcleod and Stuart Phillips (he/him). We need more non-coding RNA studies in our field, seems like they might be a bigger factor than we realize!

Thank you to the team: Jem Cheng, Jenna Stone, Michael J. Kamal, Josh Cherubini, Gianni Parise, @macdonmj, & countless others who worked tirelessly on this project! #dreamteam

Does a single night of restricted sleep alter indices of arterial structure and function? Josh Cherubini Jem L. Cheng, Calvin M. Armstrong, Michael J. Kamal, Gianni Parise and @macdonmj (McMaster Kinesiology) investigate in this article! đbuff.ly/3XJQEg0

Hey Myotwitter! A call for papers in AJP-Cell Physiology edited by LEMuR@Mac Cory Dungan, PhD and yours truly. We would love to see your work so send it our way! New AJP-CELL Call for Papers: Myogenic Stem Cells: From Single Cell Biology to Muscle Physiology

Pairing with the article from McKenna et al. is this #Viewpoint from J. Max Michel (Auburn Kinesiology) and Michael J. Kamal (McMaster Kinesiology). Michel and Kamal comment further on the comparative effects on Na+,K+-ATPase regulation! đbuff.ly/4frVtRp

Now online! Great collab with Oscar Horwath, PhD William AprĂł, PhD et al. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcâŠ

Travelled to Montreal to watch my friend & mentor Chris McGlory awarded the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Early Career Investigator award. Chrisâ devotion to high quality science and supervision made CSEPâs choice a no-brainer IMO! (Heâs also recruiting if youâre looking for an excellent lab!)

Our work is now online âŠNature Communicationsâ©! Led by âŠBianca Marcellaâ© we show that GSK3 inhibition, alone or combined with exercise, can provide benefits to muscle and metabolic health in mdx mice! nature.com/articles/s4146âŠ

Shoutout to the McMaster University New Lyons Media centre for 3D printing these vertebrae for my anatomy lectures this week. They were a hit with the students!

PhD defended and wrapped up! Couldnât have asked for a better end to this (long) journey! Some of the people who made all this possible: Gianni Parise Stuart Phillips (he/him) Kevin Murach Andrew Mikhail Donald Xhuti Stephanie Mattina and the twitter-less others - thank you

Weâre excited to share that Gianni Parise has been named McMasterâs next Vice-President, McMaster Research, starting July 1, 2025! đ A seasoned leader & researcher in the Faculty of Science, heâll advance our research, innovation & global partnerships ow.ly/JjER50VyoT8
