My latest, for The New York Times: In 2018, Brazil's National Museum suffered a devastating fire that wiped out 85% of its 20 million specimens and artifacts. Now, a private collector has donated more than 1,100 Brazilian fossils to help rebuild the collections. nytimes.com/2024/05/09/sci…

A free suggestion: Have the publisher do a massive brand refresh and buy everyone new business cards, etc. Then have the IT team upgrade the phones less than a week later and change everyone’s phone numbers, thereby wasting all the business cards. (This really happened to me.)

The symmetry with Apple’s 1984 ad is remarkable. In “1984,” a dissident throws a hammer through a TV screen, symbolizing humanity’s power to conquer technology. In this ad, a hydraulic press crushes beloved cultural artifacts, symbolizing technology’s power to conquer humanity.

A terrific, if dispiriting, read about the state of Facebook. It's wild how much it's changed in the past decade—and how rampant this specific form of AI imagery has now become. I see it alarmingly often on my own personal feed.
