My biggest problem with American urbanism is the failure to use city blocks and building patterns to frame and enclose space. The Buckingham Fountain in Chicago (left) stands isolated in a field, with no connection to nearby buildings and block structure. The Trevi fountain in

#Georgism Georgism doesn't fix capitalism, Georgism is capitalism I often see people say that Georgism is a way to fix capitalism, as if it's a patch for a broken system. But I think that framing sells it short. Georgism isn’t some bolt-on reform... reddit.com/r/georgism/com…

CA & the Bay Area are paving the way to zero-emission buildings, but outdated permitting is slowing heat pump adoption. Streamlining permitting can cut costs & speed delivery of health & climate benefits. SPUR details 5 recommendations. spur.org/GreenlightingC…

In a year of big change, our priorities remain clear: abundant housing, sustainable and convenient mobility, climate-resilient communities, vibrant downtowns, and government that works. See what we achieved this past year with the support of our members. spur.org/about/annual-r…

Buildings too tall, no setbacks, inadequate parking provision, overlooks neighbouring properties, retail generates excessive noise impacts, repetitive design features Planning application denied

Should developers in car-centric Los Angeles be allowed to build new apartments anywhere in the city with zero on-site parking? Some L.A. City Council members think so. My LAist story looks at a new motion considering an end to parking requirements city-wide. 🔗👇

🚨 SANDAG wants to oppose SB 79 - a bill that would allow housing near transit! Their own plan calls for EXACTLY this, but they're protecting NIMBY cities instead of working folks who can't afford homes. Email [email protected] w/ comment before Friday's 9a meeting

🚨 SANDAG (San Diego's regional planning agency) says cities might avoid building transit to dodge SB 79's housing requirements. Wait... so cities would rather have NO transit than allow apartments? And SANDAG thinks this proves CITIES should control housing decisions??

City officials have sided with homeowners opposed to a proposed 17-story apartment complex that would have added hundreds of homes in West San Jose. sanjosespotlight.com/san-jose-resid…

Oof. Requiring two or 2.25 parking spots is kinda unhinged y’all. Think about the ways cars have made LA expensive, ugly, and hard to navigate — and make it hard for people to raise a family here. We cause so much self-inflicted harm with policies like this.

I think it’s odd that “should the marginal dollar of additional transit funding be used to cut bus fares or to increase frequency?” has become a huge ideological signifier.

After convening at 10am, and with several breaks, Senate concurred in Assembly amendments to SB 101, the Budget Bill, along party lines. The vote occurred at 120pm. Bill likely to be sent on Sunday, 6/15, deadline, which will commence the 12-day clock for GGN final action.

Thank you Senator Scott Wiener, State Senator Jesse Arreguín and Mark González for fighting for transit. The Legislature's budget proposal restores $1.1B in transit funding & offers up to $750M in loans to Bay Area agencies. But it's not final until an agreement with Governor Gavin Newsom Newsom is reached.

CA state budget to be adopted by midnight Sunday night and the Gov has 12 days to approve. Let’s see AB609 and SB607 come to fruition by 6-27. We are on the cusp of monumental CEQA reform none of us ever thought possible. Let’s bring it home!

California isn't playing games about this. State officials say San Diego's proposed changes violate multiple laws like setbacks and parking requirements and threaten to refer the city to the Attorney General. The deadline to respond is July 11. 5/6
