Steven Spielberg has told Takashi Yamazaki that he saw Godzilla Minus One three times, and praised the human characters. Yamazaki, who views Spielberg as a "god", was left in tears.

Talk about how stupid these movies are if you want (I'd argue they're no more stupid than your average super hero film), but the fact is you're seeing things you've never seen before. There is intrinsic value in that.

Fun fact: Godzilla Minus One is the only Toho-produced Godzilla movie without an actor playing the monster. Yamazaki thinks he based Godzilla's depiction on his cats at one point.
