This Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Rwanda Commonwealth Games Association (CGA Rwanda), in collaboration with the British High Commission, the British Council, and Ministry of Sports | Rwanda, joined the community of Rubavu District to celebrate the King’s Baton Relay (KBR) for the fourth time in Rwanda. #moreincommon

In line with the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign, CGA Rwanda and its partners came together to collect plastic waste and plant trees along the shores of Lake Kivu, aligning the initiative with this month’s community work, Umuganda. #KBR2026 #moreincommon

The celebration also featured a 3x3 Basketball Interschool Tournament, where Collège Inyemeramihigo (girls) and Gacuba II (boys) emerged as champions. #KBR2026 #moreincommon

During the #KBR2026 celebrations, several dignitaries shared their remarks: 🏀 The British High Commissioner, H.E Alison Thorpe, expressed her delight at the strong community participation and personally joined in planting trees. #moreincommon

She highlighted that the design elements of the King’s Baton for Rwanda; Amahoro Stadium, the Kigali Convention Centre, Gorillas, and Cycling, symbolize Rwandans’ resilience and remarkable progress after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. #KBR2026 #moreincommon

🏀 CGA Rwanda President, Ms. Alice Umulinga, stated: “The performances we witnessed today are a testament to our readiness to make an impact at #Glasgow2026. I encourage you all to keep training hard & continuously improve, so that one day we can see you shine on global stages.”

Rwanda’s #KBR2026 marks the conclusion of the Baton’s journey across Africa. The Baton will continue to Asia, as the Relay travels through all 74 Commonwealth nations ahead of #Glasgow2026, a true celebration of unity, diversity, and the shared values of the Commonwealth.
