Uncorrected cover of the paperback, coming soon. Chuffed to see Edward Young/Angus Hyland's gorgeous orange badge at lower right which has fronted my favorite books since childhood. Penguin's founder Allen Lane felt the name carried a "certain dignified flippancy." Like Annie!

A Dirty Filthy Book: Michael Meyer Annie Besant’s public battle for women’s control over their reproductive health in the Victorian Age still resonates over 150 years on. This is vital but little-known history, here told with vigour and scholarly heft. #HWACrowns24

Biked Pittsburgh-DC along the GAP trail + C&O Canal. Feels like a route that should exist in a forgotten corner of Europe: 333.5 maintained miles of car (and often cell signal) free trail through small towns and over the Eastern Continental Divide to the Atlantic.

The 22-mile downhill from Mt. Savage, across the Mason-Dixon Line to Cumberland leads to the canal, cut parallel to the Potomac and finished just in time for the railroad to make it irrelevant.

Some sections trace the riverbank, before ending at the “water gate” in DC, namesake of the infamous apartments overlooking the C&O’s start. Ended at the new WWI Memorial, then biked to DCA’s Hertz. Home in four hours after 3.5 days of pedaling and zero regrets. Well, not after.

Honored for the shout-out to the late-greats Malik Sealy and Benjamin Franklin (and his Last Bet) in Life Advice. Babies hearing Russillo narrate Franklin’s remarkable bequest to Boston and Philly will be dreaming of learning a trade in no time. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

Once I walked past City Lights in SF and was floored to see my book in its window. Now Mrs. Besant has her own wall at my British equivalent: Foyle's, on Charing Cross Road. She often passed this spot en route to court, and protests at Trafalgar Square. Welcome back, Annie!

April 17 is the 235th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin’s death. Happy to talk with the Build Upon the Good podcast about the founder of American philanthropy, whose unique last bequest is still paying out, training Boston and Philly tradespeople today. builduponthegood.com/blog/f/ep-41-m…

Today's Edinburgh Marathon - blue skies, rain, 45mph winds, hailstorm, sunburn, and the best crowd urging us along the entire way with drums, choirs, The Killers on blast, high-fives, and gummies. Plus: spotted this wizard for hire. He also walks dogs.

Digging in the stacks unearths unexpected things, but never expected the 1935 Nobel Peace Prize to be one of them. Awarded to a journalist whose bravery in exposing corrupt and lying leaders led to a concentration camp, and his death. #NobelPeacePrize
