I heard a number of stories like this while on the faculty job market, often told in good humor. But it's not really funny, is it? You shouldn't have to feel like you have to drink or go back to someone's house/hotel to land the job or network. I am so tired of this culture

Emergency need: We need $1,355 in funds to secure emergency housing for a very vulnerable member with 2 young children. Will update with each donation. In these ICEy times, all we have is each other. Be well, fam. We care about you and you have a home here with us. #NoBorders

This is the paradox: those most aware of how exploitative academic labor is are often the ones doing it unpaid. We need to stop normalizing this. Gratitude and potential opportunity doesn’t pay the bills—and neither does prestige. Poor students can’t afford unpaid internships.

I hope folks grasp that universities & research orgs offload crisis to free external coalitions who themselves are unfunded survivors- then celebrate how they have pathways set up. You can’t pat yourself on the back for help you didn’t provide, nor did you support financially.

Some of the recruiting letters my husband’s parents withheld from him until he was 24 because “we didn’t want to have travel far to home meets, and you aren’t that smart anyway.” I was there when they handed him these opened letters. He was national champion in high school. He

"Sex with underage girls" is rape. Because children can't consent to sex. "Underage sex" = adult raping a child. It's not a difficult concept to grasp, so why do these headlines persist? timesofmalta.com/article/man-wh…

When organizations or Universities preface an outcome by saying “This decision was not easy” it 100% of the time means they chose money over principle.
