Jason Rantz on Seattle Red And well, with respect, far too many (👀) don’t have a very good, or very meaningful appreciation for the very real societal consequences of a quarter to a third of mildly symptomatic covid patients (and many “asymptomatic” ones) having to to deal with chronic complications…

Finding patterns in the chaos of #LongCovid... We surveyed 5,652 people with Long Covid (most never hospitalized with acute disease) and allowed them to chart their symptoms over time. ---> Onset of symptom clusters happened in a predictable fashion. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Diana Berrent Güthe (@dianaberrent) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What was the pattern? (1) cold and flu-like symptoms (2) change in smell and/or taste (3) dyspnea and chest pain (4) cognitive and visual problems (5) cardiac symptoms

Who was at risk for #LongCovid? Just about everyone. "Initial COVID-19 symptom presentation varies; however, the development of PASC appears to be independent of COVID-19 symptom presentation, severity, or the presence of pre-morbid (pre-existing) health conditions."

Diana Berrent Güthe (@dianaberrent) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Searching for clues beyond the EHR's... "This study provides new information that points to a distinct and statistically significant pattern of PASC symptoms based on symptom type and symptom onset originally derived from unstructured patient reports."

Diana Berrent Güthe (@dianaberrent) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Conclusion --> "Our findings suggests that the evolution of PASC symptoms may follow a predictable pattern inclusive of a long duration".

"Confirmed factors (cold/flu like symptoms, change in smell/taste, dyspnea & chest pain, cognitive & visual symptoms, and cardiac symptoms) follow an arguably sequential pattern that could accompany progressive or persistent inflammation accompanied by endothelial activation."

Validate #LongCovid sufferers—don’t ignore them. “There gonna look normal on the outside” “They look fine, there not fine, believe them. They are the experts of their own illness” “This is a real disease” “You need to stay rested” Thanks WesElyMD 🙏
