Relating to youth baseball: * Pro umps call pitches outside the actual zone; youth umps obviously will as well. * The comment about Arraez .. mainly, these pitches are hittable, and in youth baseball we see pitches that are much farther out of the zone, but STILL hittable.

Keep your swing on the highway 🔥 Langford has been focusing on a more vertical setup to help this Helps with: • Swinging from inside out • Keeps front side staying on longer • Longer direction through big part of field

Coaching our coaches is a PRIORITY! Hats off to Hastings for hosting a coaching clinic with Brian Raabe from the Twins Community Fund last night. Over 2 dozen coaches showed up to learn and get better! Thanks so much to Coach Raabe and the Twins!

Clayton Kershaw on long toss! Coaches, as our athletes get back into throwing, make sure you plan your throwing program. Ease back into a routine and slowly ramp up. Talk to your players about their arms and listen to their feedback!

Ok, it's January. If they are skating on Canal Street in New Orleans, shouldn't we get to play outdoor baseball in Minnesota and Wisconsin?!

All youth sports have some common themes and lessons. Great message from former pro hockey player PJ Atherton about getting cut as a youth player. As many of our MBL associations conduct tryouts in the coming weeks, keep this in mind. Baseball has MANY of these same stories!

In youth baseball, all of our pitchers play at least one other position. Coach Meade emphasizes the importance of managing how much these players throw in practice. Coaches Insider has the full interview: coachesinsider.com/baseball/pitch…

Diving into the rule book again, shall we ... This week we cover some batter's interference on a steal, as well as the definition of a catch. A couple classics!

Food for Thought. NCAA men's Supers and WCWS have 4-umpire crews and they rightly gather to discuss rule interpretations/ judgment 3-4x per game, + replay. Youth baseball has ONE umpire with 5% of the training the NCAA umps have, and is expected to get those same calls right.

🚨 The Game within the Game Next time an ump makes a bad strike call on you, nod your head in agreement & get back in the box. There’s too much negativity directed at umpires - it’s a hard job. Show them respect & you might get the next call because of it.

For our catching people out there ... Simple drills, learn to receive the pitch, basic blocking. Youth catchers can do these same drills, and it does not need to take a lot of time.
