Every refugee carries a story of pain, loss, and strength.   They are not defined by what they’ve lost but by how they rebuild with courage.   On #WorldRefugeeDay, let’s show our solidarity with refugees.

I wrapped up my visit to Syria. I found many challenges but also a fragile hope. To sustain it, we urgently need: Emergency aid to support people returning to destroyed homes and lives. Long-term investments to help rebuild a country emerging from a long war. Both are vital.

War in Sudan is tearing millions of lives apart. UNHCR and partners are on the ground, but the response is dangerously underfunded. Now is the time to support people whose humanitarian needs continue to grow. unh.cr/6448ccc04

If realized, the agreement between the Democratic Rep of Congo and Rwanda can bring peace at last to millions whose lives have been torn for decades by violence, hatred and greed, including refugees and displaced. As foreseen by the agreement, UNHCR stands ready to do its part.

Excellent discussions CSIS today on forced displacement in West&Central Africa. Addressed protection,security&development challenges. Crucially, we exchanged on the importance of strong partnership with govts, communities,IFIs & private sector to drive lasting solutions.

Syrians are returning home with hope for a safe future. In Washington recently, Rema Jamous and Mike Dell'Amico, UNHCR officials for MENA and Jordan, met with U.S. government, int'l financial institutions and civil society to update on regional trends & our life sustaining work.
