Demolition beckons for the fine, modernist French Railways House on Piccadilly (1960-62). Designed by Shaw & Lloyd with signage by Ernő Goldfinger and interiors by Charlotte Perriand, this could so easily have been upgraded for modern office use. Wasteful and wholly unnecessary.

When the iconic F-R-A-N-C-E signage was removed from French Railways House in 2014, artist Henry Coleman recreated it with an illuminated installation on the façade of the Royal Academy, titled 'Scrape'. The whereabouts of the original signage is unknown.

I'm appalled that the B-listed Africa House in Ardeer, one of the last surviving buildings of Glasgow's 1938 Empire Exhibition, has just been illegally demolished. No listed building consent. The owner has likely committed a criminal offence. They should be forced to rebuild it.
