Baroness Hilary Armstrong explains how work by the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods aims to help deprived neighbourhoods across England. She says politicians 'right across Government' need to help create opportunities for those who have the least. Katherine Forster

Excellent roundtable this morning at the launch of the interim report for Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods. A lot of energy around getting government to think neighbourhoods as we have called for in our report. You can read the interim report here: neighbourhoodscommission.org.uk/report/interim…

Which parts of the country are furthest away from making a real contribution to the government's missions agenda? On all missions bar energy, "doubly disadvantaged" areas - those that are highly deprived, with low social infrastructure/social capital - are much further behind

ICON’s Interim Report sets out the 613 mission critical neighbourhoods most at risk of not meeting the government’s 5 missions for national renewal. Without targeted interventions to these areas the government will fail to meet its promise of a decade of renewal.

Delighted to be joining Rupa Huq MP and @joncruddas_1 as inaugural fellows at RuskinOxford - it’s a fantastic institution with a rich and important history, and a strong vision for the future focused on addressing issues of place-based inequality, education, skills and work through

Matt Leach | @mattleach.bsky.social reflects on how local areas that recover quicker from crises are not those that had the big capital projects but the places that had high-levels of social infrastructure.

Thanks to Luke Akehurst for raising the work of Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods today in Westminster Hall and the work of Baroness Armstrong. He is right, the data is there. We know who needs support. We need policy to focus on neighbourhoods like Stanley in North Durham.

Strong speech from Polly Billington for East Thanet on the need for coastal communities to get the support they need. Half the mission critical neighbourhoods we have identified at Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods are on the coast. We need to give places like Newington Estate we visited priority.
