Years ago, during Portland's single-dwelling zones update, I did financial modeling to demonstrate how increased density will result in better priced housing options. The results are borne out in today's new construction listings and my analyses proved true. The math did not lie

Interestingly, the Nov. 2022 charter reform measure (26-228) got 58% of Portland voters' support, which is more than any man on City Council has received: Rene Gonzalez, 2022, 53% Dan Ryan, 2022, 54% Mingus Mapps, 2020, 55% Ted Wheeler, 2020, 46%

🛣️🚍🛴🚶🏾What's your ONE big idea that would fix transportation in our greater Portland metro region? Mine is: equitably price the right of way to manage demand and plow the proceeds into safety enhancements and transportation options to reduce our SOV dependency. That'd be 💯

Streets that would be difficult to plant trees in, yet they can have shade. The close-together 3-story buildings, plus shade cloth!

Here's a petition I'd like #Portland friends to sign, especially if you want to continue safely getting around the city by bike. Save the SW Broadway downtown protected lanes -- and get on board to protect & rebuild its once-celebrated bicycle system. forms.gle/jChJzL7oVv31NS…

"PBOT evaluates safety improvements at the 1-, 3-, and 5-year marks after projects are complete." What are the conditions that require safety evaluations of projects? Is it project cost, fatalities or serious injuries, or another combination of metrics? content.govdelivery.com/accounts/ORPOR…

“This is going to sound wild to anyone who lives in the US, but for any two-story rowhouse in Tokyo, the owner can by right operate a bar, a restaurant, a boutique, a small workshop on the ground floor — even in the most resy zoned sections of the city.” bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

🚨 ACTION ALERT: The Portland Central City Task Force has created a public survey to gather information that will inform our work. In my couple meetings so far it's clear they need to hear more community voices. 🖱️💻 Fill it out now and spread the word! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

Just FYI and FWIW, I asked Metro if they had anything to say about Portland Bureau of Transportation attempt to make major changes to the Broadway bike lane... since the bulk of the funding came from Metro. If @CommMapps wants to make major changes, he might run afoul of Metro.

Here’s a clip from my comments last night at planning commission as we talk about the proposal to place arbitrary 6 unit/parcel caps (4+2 ADUs) across virtually all the R1 and R2 parcels where missing middle is actually feasible to build in sacramento.

WSDOT Design Manual states an earthquake resilient high bridge on 200 feet of liquifiable river bottom is probably impossible, certainly costly. An Immersed Tunnel’s earthquake resilience has been proven by two-dozen Japanese tunnels & San Francisco’s BART tunnel.

This bike lane is part of a plan that went through a 2-year public process, before being adopted by council by a 5-0 vote (with 4 of those council members still sitting today). To remove it with no notice is what's wrong.

Aside from cost, my only concern about half-stop traffic signals at intersections is how people treat them during power outrages. People ignore the signals until a user activates the signal. No power, no one stops.
