Dr James Moroka (1891-1985) a medical doctor & farmer who led the ANC from 1949-1952. Moroka excelled at medical school at the University of Edinburgh & graduated in 1918. He qualified as a surgeon in the 1930's bt could not put his training to use because of the colour bar laws

Thami Mnyele (1948-1985) was a South African artist associated with the Black Consciousness movement and the ANC. He moved to Botswana & joined the Medu Art Ensemble in 1979 with his friend & activist Wally Serote. He was murdered by SAFD soldiers & they confiscated his art.

Dr AC Jordan (1906-1968) was a SA'n Xhosa novelist, historian & a pioneering South African intellectual. He earned a BA (1934) & a Masters (1942) & doctorate (1957). He was a professor at the University of California & University of Wisconsin-Madison. Pallo Jordan is his son.

Edwin Thabo Mofutsanyana (1899-1995) was a South African teacher, Miner and journalist. Mofutsanyana was an active member of the Communist Party of South Africa. He studied at the Lenin School in Moscow in the 1930's.
