Today the term 'Slush Fund' means secret kitty. The term comes from Royal Navy cooks who would skim the fat off stews and broths, known as Slush, to keep and sell to the crew to help soften ships biscuits or to candlemakers. The Slush Fund could then be used for ships business.

I’ve seen so many posts about flags on socials this week….so I thought I would share a poem I wrote from my worst day in Helmand.😢  Our Union flag draped, folded or at half mast still haunts me. 🇬🇧 But it is exactly that, a symbol of unity. Of OUR loss. On Op Herrick we served

1/4 Aug 30 1944. The battle of Chatillon-sur-Seine is part of SAS folklore. I visited this week to remember the sacrifice of Bill Holland & the courage of Harry Vickers, DCM. I had the pleasure of meeting Harry. If you have 2 minutes to spare, this is a video in his honour.

Exactly a year ago, we opened the Farmer’s Dog to back British farming. Today, there are 146 people on the payroll and I’d like to thank every single one of them for making it such a roaring success.

The late Dame Stella Rimington was the first female Director General of MI5. From top secret work in India, to outsmarting Russian spies and dealing with IRA threats, she modernised MI5 and inspired the iconic ‘M’ in James Bond. This is my tribute thread to her: (🧵)

To take the King’s shilling meant to agree to be recruited for Royal Navy Unscrupulous recruiters would drop a shilling in a beer, by the time the man noticed it was too late. Landlords got wise & began serving beer in glass bottom tankards, hence the term ‘Bottoms Up!’ to check.

The man has no shame. 🔵 🚌 In Government Conservatives introduced the £2 bus fare then extended it 🔵 🚌 Our manifesto was clear (I know because I fought for its inclusion), we would keep it for the whole of the 5 years if we were elected 🥀 One of Labour’s first things

Did you know travelling to work by walking, wheeling or cycling is the same as starting moderate exercise training? Particularly if you are doing no other physical activity. It's the small changes that can help you on your journey to better health.
